NexGen is a program under Epuka Ugaidi targeting children under the age of 12 years, the ‘next generation’.
The program was founded on the vision of nurturing a young generation empowered against radicalization and violent extremism. The program uses educative content delivered through interactive media i.e. animations, comics and pictorials, community engagement activities i.e. sports and creative art, kids events and dialogue.
Our EventsChildren are a vulnerable group in society as they are highly impressionable and can be easily influenced.
This inclines them as an easy target for radicalization. Children at risk of radicalization may suffer from behavioral challenges such as low self-esteem predisposing them to incidents of harassment, coercion, discrimination and bullying.
They may end up feeling isolated, lonely and wanting to belong. All of these, among other factors, eventually end up affecting their development and inadvertently their future.
Nexgen seeks to address the drivers of violent extremism and radicalization by:
- Providing a safe space through use of sports, creative arts and dialogue.
- Promoting social cohesion, religious and cultural understanding and tolerance.
- Forging closer relationships to create a sense of integration for the children through peer engagement.
- Enhancing the role of children in peace-building within communities.
